A trans woman is a person who was assigned male at birth, but who identifies as a woman. Some trans women may choose to undergo hormone therapy and/or surgery to physically transition to the gender they identify as. However, not all trans people choose to undergo medical treatment, and being trans is not dependent on medical procedures.

It is important to respect a person’s identity and pronouns, regardless of whether or not they have undergone medical treatment. It is also important to recognize that every trans person’s journey is unique, and it is not up to others to decide how a person should or should not express their gender. It is important to be an ally to the trans community by educating oneself, using inclusive language, and standing up against transphobia.
