Wicked Pictures started in 1993, founded by Steve Orenstein after he’d already been running another adult company called X-Citement Video, and from day one he wanted something different from the gonzo and quick-and-dirty stuff dominating the industry at the time. Actual scripts, character development, professional lighting, performers who could genuinely act and not just perform. It’s basically the prestige-drama end of the adult spectrum, and it worked well enough to win awards in its very first year.
The Wicked Girls lineup is the real legacy here. Chasey Lain was the first, signed that debut year, then Jenna Jameson came on board in 1995 and the whole thing exploded from there. Stormy Daniels was a Wicked Girl too, years before most of America knew her name from anything else, and jessica drake and Julia Ann rounded out a roster that’s genuinely stacked by any measure. Jessa Rhodes and Mandy Muse have both shot for them too, keeping that same tradition of picking performers who bring more than just their looks to a scene.
Orenstein sold the company to Gamma Entertainment in December 2020, bringing in Axel Braun to head production, but the cinematic, story-first DNA of the place seems to have survived the ownership change. If you want porn that actually tries to be a movie instead of just a collection of positions, this is one of the very few places that’s been doing it consistently for over thirty years.
