Kay Parker (August 28, 1944 – October 14, 2022) was a British adult film actress, born in Birmingham, who became a leading star of the American “golden age” of the late 1970s and 1980s and later worked as a metaphysical counselor and author. She died in Los Angeles at the age of 78.
An unlikely start
She grew up in a conservative household in England and moved to the United States at 21. There she built a successful career in the import business and, while living in San Francisco, took up drama classes. In the late 1970s the actor John Leslie introduced her to the adult film business. Her first appearance, in V – The Hot One, was a non-sex role, and director Anthony Spinelli convinced her to shoot her first scene in Sex World (1977).
Career
She entered the industry later than most, and that turned out to be her signature. She was regularly cast as the mature woman, a mother, stepmother, rich aunt or wealthy divorcee, often opposite younger co-stars. She is best known for Dracula Sucks (1978) and Taboo (1980). She retired in the mid-1980s, worked for a time as public-relations representative for Caballero Home Video and took small parts in mainstream productions such as The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. In 1995 Cult Movies magazine ran a profile titled “America’s Favorite Mom”.
Awards
She won the Adult Film Association of America’s award for Best Supporting Actress in 1983 (Sweet Young Foxes), was honored with a place on the Golden Age of Porn Walk of Fame in 1984 and received an XRCO Special Merit Award in 1985. She is a member of both the AVN Hall of Fame and the XRCO Hall of Fame (1990), and she received the Free Speech Coalition Lifetime Achievement Award in 1990.
Later years
In 2001 she published her autobiography, Taboo: Sacred, Don’t Touch, with a revised edition in 2016. She later ran a YouTube channel answering fans’ questions on spirituality and offered paid counseling sessions. The documentary A Taboo Identity follows her transition from adult star to metaphysical counselor.
