Girlfriends Films girlfriendsfilms.com

Girlfriends Films is basically the site I built this whole page around, if I’m being honest with myself. Go read my About Us if you haven’t, I’ve been banging on about “reality porn with actual plot” since day one, and this is the studio that does it better than almost anyone. Founded back in 2002 by a guy named Dan O’Connell and his business partner who apparently just goes by “Moose,” it’s been almost entirely lesbian content from the jump, and O’Connell wrote and directed like 95% of everything they put out for over a decade. That’s not a small thing, most studios are a revolving door of random contract directors, but here you’re basically watching one guy’s very specific, very consistent vision of what makes girl-on-girl content actually work.

There was some drama in 2014 that I find weirdly charming, Moose bought out O’Connell’s stake in the company, but instead of that being some ugly falling out, O’Connell just kept directing exclusively for them through his own little production shingle. So the guy who built the entire creative identity of the site doesn’t even own it anymore and is still there making the movies. I don’t know the full story and I don’t need to, I just think it’s funny that the business side and the creative side split up and nobody noticed because the actual content didn’t skip a beat.

They’ve put out over 600 films at this point, and the series are the real hook here, Women Seeking Women, Lesbian Seductions, Mother Daughter Exchange Club (yes really, and yes it’s exactly what you think), Road Queen. These aren’t just random scenes slapped under a category tag, there’s actual setup, actual dialogue, girls who seem like they’re into each other and not just going through motions for a paycheck. Bree Daniels built a huge chunk of her whole reputation shooting here, and it shows, her scenes for this site are noticeably better than the random stuff she’s done elsewhere, like she actually gives a shit about the material. Jillian Janson too, she’s all over their catalog and the chemistry with her scene partners is the kind of thing you can’t really fake with just good lighting.

They moved into a proper 37,000 square foot facility out in Valencia back in 2012, which tells you this was never some fly-by-night operation shooting in someone’s apartment. Membership gets you the whole back catalog streaming, which matters a lot here because unlike most studios where the old stuff feels dated and cringe, Girlfriends Films aged pretty well since the whole point was always chemistry and writing instead of chasing whatever trend was hot that year.

If you’re the kind of guy who just wants two girls going at it with zero setup, this might feel slow to you, I won’t lie about that. But if you’re anything like me and you actually want to believe these two girls kind of want to be there together, this is the studio that gets it right more often than not. Worth the membership, easy.
